POINT ME TO THE PLANE — Ten hotels in the Umbrian town of Assisi, near Perugia, are offering reimbursement for a current hotel stay or a future free room for couples who prove they conceived while visiting the property. It’s all meant to combat Italy’s declining birth rate, one of the lowest in the world and one which many Italians worry will harm the country’s future. Condé Nast Traveler reports that:
The “Fertility Room” campaign bears the slogan “Venite ad Assisi. Insieme!”, which translates to “Come to Assisi. Together!” In order to take advantage of the deal, guests must stay at one of the participating hotels before March 31, 2017 and then later return with a birth certificate that can confirm the baby was conceived during their visit to Assisi. The website adds that “Each tour operator will, therefore, customize and enrich the offer Fertility Room in order to make it as interesting as possible,” which might mean that couples who book the room could be greeted with candles, flowers, music, and other romantic, mood-setting elements. Provided they have a successful end result, couples will either get a reimbursement or a free room after the fact.
According to Wikitravel, Assisi is a small medieval town of about 25,000 people perched on a hill in Umbria, the heart of Italy. Famous as the birthplace of St. Francis, Assisi holds religious, historical, and artistic significance. Periodical exhibits and fairs enrich the visitor’s experience.
Properties included in the promotion are: Farm Basaletto, Farmhouse Casa Faustina, Farmhouse Le Mandrie di San Paolo, Hotel Cristallo, Assisi Dal Moro Gallery Hotel, Hotel dei Priori, Hotel Fontebella, Hotel Castello, Hotel Windsor Savoia, and Villamena.
