The real issue for the US is the defacto loss of access to it’s Gulf States bases. That’s what boots on the ground are about, a defensive move to shore those bases up. Those troops can transit through Saudi Arabia and UAE. It is not necessary to secure the strait. There is poor cost-benefit to seizing the Gulf islands. And there is word of poor morale among the rank and file soldiers in the arena.
