The Big Brains behind Epic Fuck Up are focusing on Kharg Island as the key component of a ground offensive against Iran. As I have stated in podcasts and in posts there is a limited military defense on Kharg Island itself.
There is no oil currently in storage at Kharg Island it has been shipped out. Zio propaganda/Neo-Caligula deception claims Kharg handles 90% of Iran’s exports. But that was before sanctions and threat of war.
Neo-Caligula claims this was bombed, quite the statement given the hill terrain on the island is already basically dirt. The oil installations were not impacted. Should they be impacted another 1.2 million bbd would go offline taking the total stopped from the Persian gulf at 22 million/day. So once again Neo-Caligula is engaged in Art of Deal bravado.
Per ChatGPT Iran has the Goreh-Jask pipeline and can handle one million a day. Lavan Island terminal handles 200,000. So taking Kharg Island wouldn’t end Iran exports. It would however provide incentive to wreck Saudi alternative exports.
The counter-attack capability lies with dug in batteries on the Iranian coast 20 km away. Of course those could be stormed by the tiny Marine forces in the region perhaps joined by airborne paratroopers. Given that Iran’s lines of supply and communications are short and the Americans stretched one could easily surmise that this operation could regress into an ill fated Battle of Gallipoli scenario.
Here is the expanded map of the area with Iranian coast on the horizon. A coastal mountain range and extensive bluffs are visible. You can see there isn’t much to Kharg Island other than becoming a sitting duck target for those who seize it. Describing it as a military facility is factually inaccurate. It is primarily civilian infrastructure, not military, as evidenced by maps showing residential areas, processing facilities, and export jetties without visible bases.

To better understand the Strait of Hormuz issue, I’ve been recommending that people watch ‘The Guns Of Navarone’, which narrates a similar situation – involving just ONE such gun emplacement in a strategic position where it controls the flow of naval traffic, during World War II:

The Strait of Hormuz is about 100 miles long.
The Persian Gulf (also part of Iran’s coastline) is ~615 miles long.
Add the Gulf of Oman (shared with Pakistan) and you’ve easily got 1000 miles of continuous and fractally complex coastline in which to conceal weapons emplacements.
And we’re not just talking funky old World War II artillery that can throw a shell over the horizon. We’re talking state of the art artillery, state of the art targeting, state of the art smart shells, fiber optic communications channels linking the fire control of this thousand-mile-long defensive line. We’re talking artillery, but also ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, ship missiles, torpedoes, UUVs, drones, dumb mines, smart mines, and speedboats; all of it, in concealed underground bases, protected from explosive decompression and nuclear fallout.
