If we regard energy, to an economy, as equivalent to water, to an ecology, then it can be argued that privatizing power generation and distribution is like privatizing water distribution – it leads to desertification and conspicuous consumption, often side by side.
In other words, I argue that it would be better for an entire economy for power generation and distribution to be treated as a public utility, not a private source of rentier income. Metrics, yes. Profits. no. Just like a credit union.

Even better would be to treat power generation and distribution as a personal responsibility. Who you gonna call when there’s an earthquake and the phones are out? How much stronger a society we would have if everyone didn’t wait for Someone Else to do the hard work.
Amazon has some good deals on LiFePO4 batteries – two of those makes 24 volts, add a few 200 watt solar panels and then you have the electromotive force to do stuff, maybe even run a microwave or an air conditioner.
Don’t confuse these with lithium-ion batteries: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_iron_phosphate_battery
Ions are just molecules with an electrical charge, don’t be intimidated: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion
The biggest power price hits are yet to come, the zios have bought the nuclear power producers, their decades of billing has included an amount for nuclear plant decommissioning, set aside as trillion dollar reserves in the books of the power utilities. Zios are/have going to pocket the accumulated TRILLIONS, then bankrupt the utility LEAVING THE INDIVIDUAL STATES TO FOOT THE DECOMMISSIONING COST. Setting the stage for painter 2.0 in America? But altmans are already organised to flee to Patagonia at a moments notice.
Why I am researching over-unity? THIS! centralized power generation has been the biggest scam that we has not has to be. While true, thermodynamics states while no system can be 100% efficient, creating a power generation system that has a COP>1 or greater is doable. Decentralized home power generation is also great national security policy as well.

“Kirkpatrick Sale offers a definitive introduction to the unique concept of bioregionalism, an alternative way of organizing society to create smaller scale, more ecologically sound, individually responsive communities with renewable economies and cultures. He emphasizes, among many other factors, the concept of regionalism through natural population division, settlement near and stewardship of watershed areas, and the importance of communal ownership of and responsibility for the land. Dwellers in the Land focuses on the realistic development of these bioregionally focused communities and the places where they are established to create a society that is both ecologically sustainable and satisfying to its inhabitants.”
