Gary from Arkansas made a great point, I think Victor missed it. During Covid the Sheriffs were the only ones that really stood up to the government mandates, in many counties they refused to enforce them. So, this combined with the ability to deputize able bodied men is one way to fight back.
Also, the Sheriffs can serve as a workaround to corrupt, compromised police. For example, theoretically in Colorado sheriffs could deputize men to ban together and form a posse to go and arrest the Tren de Agua gangsters who took over the apartment complex. The good news is that sheriffs are an alternative to cops, I think that was the point Gary was making.
