Survey of experts in relevant fields concludes that new variants could arise in countries with low vaccine coverage

THE GUARDIAN — The planet could have a year or less before first-generation Covid-19 vaccines are ineffective and modified formulations are needed, according to a survey of epidemiologists, virologists and infectious disease specialists.
Scientists have long stressed that a global vaccination effort is needed to satisfactorily neutralise the threat of Covid-19. This is due to the threat of variations of the virus – some more transmissible, deadly and less susceptible to vaccines – that are emerging and percolating.
The grim forecast of a year or less comes from two-thirds of respondents, according to the People’s Vaccine Alliance, a coalition of organisations including Amnesty International, Oxfam, and UNAIDS, who carried out the survey of 77 scientists from 28 countries. A cheap appeal to authority — I saw numerous articles a year ago where “experts” said prisoners should be released due to COVID — this did not and does not make sense to me, since there is no population whose social contacts are easier to control than inmates — if you want evidence that “experts” are often full of shit, and that there is a much bigger agenda here, you need not look further than this.

I came across the term ‘lateral flow’ test — I’d never heard this term before; from the NHS:

It doesn’t really tell you much, e.g. there is no “explanation of the technology” — but it includes this remarkable text:
Lateral flow device (LFD) testing is a fast and simple way to test people who do not have symptoms of COVID-19, but who may still be spreading the virus. … Around 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 do not have symptoms, so a test that rapidly detects these otherwise hidden cases is a very useful additional tool for tackling the virus.
So re the alleged deadly pandemic over which the world has been turned upside down, they casually say, with no further explanation, that 1/3 of people “do not have symptoms”.
