Billie Eilish: Just a New Goth-Pop Genre or a Serious Cause for Concern?

Billie Eilish (pronounced hellish with an Irish accent) (aka Pirate Baird O’Connell) born Dec. 18, 2001, and through made-girl means we can’t quite comprehend supposedly appeals to the zeitgeist of Gen Z.

She is the daughter of American actress and screenwriter Maggie Baird and American actor Patrick O’Connell. She’s also the sister of actor and Grammy Award-winning record producer Finneas O’Connell, 22, who’s also her creative collaborator on everything from lyrics to music videos.

By the young age of 18, she racked up five Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, two Guinness World Records, three MTV Video Music Awards and one Brit Award.

She first gained media attention in 2016 at age 15 when she uploaded the song “Ocean Eyes” to SoundCloud, and it was subsequently picked up by Interscope Records subsidiary Darkroom. Interscope Records is owned by Universal Music Group through Interscope Geffen A&M.

Typical of how these girls are marketed, it all starts innocent enough. The lyrics and melody of “Ocean Eyes” are actually sweet and romantic. The tune was written and produced by Finneas.

But then, as is the wont, the promoters and freaks moved in and connected her to fashion company Chanel and a stylist, both of whom helped “shape her image.”

In 2017, Apple Music got involved with distribution and out came a series of tunes with the rather whiny sounding voice of Eilish singing what is called “melancholy pop.” This is your standard Gen X suicide (“Six Feet Under”) and depression fair.

“Bored” was featured in the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” about teenage angst and suicide. Heavy on slides and implants, this soft kill brain-washing experiment spiked teenage suicides. The lyrics for “Bored” were essentially about being abandoned, alone and yes, bored. Eilish was now prolific with the hits that essentially all had the same dull, listless sound and God-awful message.

Then, it appears the Crime Syndicate freaks really began exploiting this girl in earnest. What followed was a series of songs that are downright discordian and suitable for minds like Israel Keyes or the Columbine Trench Coat Mafia.

Who knows how many youth are being damaged at this point by this “artist.” In her song “Bellyache,” the lyrics are about killing her friends and about her being a psychopath.

She talked about burning someone’s car in her song “Watch.”

She also sang about stealing your soul and hiding you in her treasure chest in “Hostage.” The song takes the perspective of a serial killer.

Generally, her music videos showcase confinement, poltergeists, ingesting poison, forced contact with repulsive insects, etc.

Much of the “media attention” surrounding Eilish has revolved around her style, which consists primarily of baggy, ill-fitting clothing. She freely admits it is attention seeking behavior — but certainly not the child sexual exploitation we witnessed with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

Aiming to “look memorable,” Eilish said that she “proved to people that [she’s] more important than they think” and likes being “kind of intimidating, so people will listen up.”

The song that really rocketed Billie to fame was “Bad Guy.” You’ve probably heard it – 795 million channel views. That’s the one where she is shown on-screen with blood smeared on her face.

Forbes identified Billie as “the artist to watch in 2019,” and NME claimed that she’s the “most talked about teen on the planet.”

Mainstream media labeled Billie Eilish as “the future of pop.” She has 27.4 million subscribers on YouTube.

Billie admitted she suffers from Tourette Syndrome, tics and depression. From watching her videos, one would assume she also suffers from body dysmorphia and self-harm. However, in interviews, this 18-year-old who has grossed $42 million to date seems fairly grounded and normal (at least about the fame: and perhaps the direction) — the antithesis of her persona in her music and videos??

And isn’t it revealing that adolescents who have fragility and mental issues are exploited in this manner? Will Billie herself end up a whacked-out train wreck, thrown on the heap like so many others in this genre? Serious advice to Billie- get out of this game, take the money and run.

Does “Bury a Friend” give us a clue?

For the debt I owe, gotta sell my soul
‘Cause I can’t say no, no, I can’t say no
Then my limbs all froze and my eyes won’t close
And I can’t say no, I can’t say no

“Bury a Friend” has over 320 million views on YouTube. Eilish drew on her personal nocturnal experience. The video gives a depiction from the perspective of the monster under the bed.

“If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling? I immediately knew what it was going to be about, what the visuals were going to be, and everything in terms of how I wanted it to be perceived,” Billie said.

For the pajama people, parents of pre-teens and teens, these soft kill lyrics may give you necessary clues, if you are having trouble with your children.

‘Bury a Friend’

Step on the glass, staple your tongue (Ahh)
Bury a friend, try to wake up (Ah-ahh)
Cannibal class, killing the son (Ahh)
Bury a friend, I wanna end me

I wanna end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna… end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna…

From ‘Bury a Friend’

Next, “You Should See Me in a Crown” may be the most cringe-worthy music video ever created – 173 million views on her You Tube channel. No wonder YT can shut down conspiracy and truth channels without batting an eye.

“The whole concept of sanity in a society where spiritual values have lost their meaning is itself meaningless.” – Thomas Merton, Raids on the Unspeakable

As her fame increased, she said her nightmares got more intense. She said she jumps the last few feet on her bed just in case there is a monster under her bed.

She once tweeted “pain is good,” and has said she thrives on people being afraid of her.

She’s suffered from uncharacteristic anxiety and panic attacks and said that she hates herself. She also claimed to have suffered from sleep paralysis and said she has seen creatures outside of her windows [source].

In her latest video of a song called “All the Good Girls go to Hell” (118 million views), you can see Eilish with angel wings falling from heaven, much like Satan (aka Lucifer). At the end of the video, you can see Lucifer walking on earth while people burn in flames. This is quite the descent into dankness and depravity from where it all began with her sweet hit, Ocean Eyes – funny how that works.

Screen grab from ‘All the Good Girls Go to Hell’

All the good girls go to hell
‘Cause even God herself has enemies
And once the water starts to rise
And heaven’s out of sight
She’ll want the devil on her team

My Lucifer is lonely
There’s nothing left to save now
My god is gonna owe me
There’s nothing left to save now

10 Comments on Billie Eilish: Just a New Goth-Pop Genre or a Serious Cause for Concern?

  1. The gym I go to usually plays music like this alternated with rap/hip-hop, despite most of the clientele being over 40. I have learned to get my workouts done in about 30 minutes. If I go earlier in the day, they play more tolerable 80s music.

    • Wear headphones and listen to your own music! I’m amazed how music affects my performance and focus in the gym …
Separately vigilantcitizen.com is excellent at documenting the darker side of show business

        • I have been a regular reader of VC for going on a decade now and considering you are a fan too, I would recommend the work of Jay Dyer of Jay’s Analysis website and YouTube and author of Esoteric Hollywood volumes 1 & 2. Jay essentially takes what VC does and then does some really thorough analysis of it. I would also recommend the Thursday night Alternate Current Radio show Boiler Room, which is also released as a podcast, for really good insights into geopolitics and other topics.

        • Illuminatiwatcher focuses solely on the music and entertainment industry. I’m sure he’s done a cover of loony Bill already

  2. Eilish was plucked from the ruling familys’ talent pool at a young age and groomed by the usual suspects for a career in psychological operations. Her assignment is the promotion of hopelessness, depression, and death.

  3. It’s not the darkness of her music that’s disturbing, it’s the utter lack of talent. There are no darker songs than REM’s “Orange Crush” or Tom Waits “Hoist that Rag”, but they are great music never the less.

    • Lack of talent? I totally agree! She sings like a ten-year-old trying out for the school glee club in that Ocean Eyes song which is the only song of hers (or his?) I’ve every heard. But who needs talent when your agenda is to completely debauch the young? And yes, when the music industry head honchos are done with her they’ll just throw her overboard and replace her with someone even more talentless and depraved. https://omegabooksnet.com

  4. There’s also a vegan propaganda with this one. Pushing malnutrition on the younger generation.
