Israeli-American Actress Natalie Portman Labeled ‘Anti-Semitic’ for Taking Stand Against Netanyahu’s Criminality

Hollywood actress Natalie Portman found out last week that even Zionist A-list Jews aren’t allowed to take a stand against Israeli policy or politicians without suffering nasty ad-hominem attacks from tinpot chosenites.

The 36-year-old actress is an Israeli citizen, born in Jerusalem and raised in the United States. She has been a vocal advocate for Israel, a devoted Zionist and even wrote a book in defense of Israel during her undergrad studies at Harvard. She has also inserted herself into American politics. In 2012, she was one of three actresses to open the Democratic National Committee convention for former President Barack Obama.

Portman was scheduled to travel to Jerusalem to receive Israel’s coveted Genesis Prize, “a prominent award sometimes referred to as the ‘Jewish Nobel'”. It includes $2 million in prize money, according to Vox. A cadre of wealthy Russian-Jewish oligarchs, including Moris Kahn, established the Genesis Prize, according to Variety. It’s a project of the Jewish Agency for Israel and office of the Israeli prime minister, who routinely speaks at the award ceremony. Portman would be the fifth laureate to receive the prize. The prize money, which was doubled for Portman, is for donation to the charities of the laureate’s choice.

On Friday, Portman canceled her trip after learning that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be a speaker at the event.

Netanyahu’s henchmen wasted no time in excoriating the actress.

Israel’s culture minister, Miri Regev, took to Twitter on Friday to write that the Portman had “fallen like ripe fruit into the hands” of anti-Israeli activists. Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz on Sunday told Israel Radio that her decision “has elements of anti-Semitism” and said she owes Israel an apology.

Former Israeli Minister Shulamit Aloni in an interview some years ago candidly explained that the “anti-Semitism” epithet and evoking the holocaust are tricks that are often played deflect criticism.

On i24NEWS, Oren Hazan, a Lukid member of Israel’s parliament, called Portman “definitely” anti-Semitic because “everyone who boycotts our prime minister boycotts us.” Hazan also demanded her citizenship be revoked and called her a “little hypocrite liar.”

Undoubtedly, someone somewhere is claiming Portman was radicalized on the Internet and calling for enhanced censorship of online speech.

In response to criticisms, Portman issued the following statement on Instagram:

My decision not to attend the Genesis Prize ceremony has been mischaracterized by others. Let me speak for myself. I chose not to attend because I did not want to appear as endorsing Benjamin Netanyahu, who was to be giving a speech at the ceremony. By the same token, I am not part of the BDS movement and do not endorse it. Like many Israelis and Jews around the world, I can be critical of the leadership in Israel without wanting to boycott the entire nation. I treasure my Israeli friends and family, Israeli food, books, art, cinema, and dance. Israel was created exactly 70 years ago as a haven for refugees from the Holocaust. But the mistreatment of those suffering from today’s atrocities is simply not in line with my Jewish values. Because I care about Israel, I must stand up against violence, corruption, inequality, and abuse of power.

Please do not take any words that do not come directly from me as my own.

This experience has inspired me to support a number of charities in Israel. I will be announcing them soon, and I hope others will join me in supporting the great work they are doing.

Perhaps we are witnessing the “coming of age” or “awakening” of a middle-aged childhood actress.

Last month, Portman apologized for signing a 2009 petition in support of Polish-Jewish filmmaker Roman Polanski, who was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977. The petition stemmed from Polanski’s arrest in Switzerland and possible extradition to the United States, Vanity Fair reports.

“I very much regret it,” Portman said in an interview with Buzzfeed. “I take responsibility for not thinking about it enough. Someone I respected gave it to me, and said, ‘I signed this. Will you too?’ And I was like, sure. It was a mistake. The thing I feel like I gained from it is empathy towards people who have made mistakes. We lived in a different world, and that doesn’t excuse anything. But you can have your eyes opened and completely change the way you want to live. My eyes were not open.”

The folks at The New Nationalist (TNN) have empathy for those who’ve made mistakes and have the courage to admit them. It’s never too late to do the right thing. And opening people’s eyes is what TNN is all about.

Meanwhile, back in Israel, with no fear of repercussions for their actions, the chosenites continue to taunt their neighbors into conflict and then blatantly attempt to cover up their criminality.

Israeli Law Would Make Filming Soldiers a Crime

A new law is being drafted in Israel that would make it a crime to film, publish or disseminate video recordings on social media or provide them to the media, the Middle East Monitor reported on April 13. Anyone who films soldiers faces a one-year jail term; or up to 10 years, if the content is classified as “detrimental to Israeli security.”

The Monitor reports the bill is in response to a damning video being circulated that shows IDF goons cheering as their peers shoot peaceful Palestinian protesters beyond a fence in Gaza Strip.

IDF Snipers Gun Down Demonstrators, Women, Children, Journalists in Gaza

Israeli Defense Forces continue their slaughter of Palestinian protesters standing in their own territory of Gaza. U.S. broadcast media have essentially ignored the story. Western European broadcast media and U.S. print media disingenuously refer to the IDF sniper massacre of unarmed Palestinian civilians demonstrating more than 100 yards away as “clashes.”

These aren’t “clashes.” It’s a massacre. These aren’t “mortally wounded” protesters. They’re murdered civilians. They’re not being “wounded near the Israeli border.” They’re being gunned in their own internationally designated territory by Palestinian-hating Jews.

Despite the thick black smokescreen that demonstrators created by burning rubber tires on April 6, IDF snipers killed nine civilians and injured 1,420 others, Shehab News Agency reports. This followed the previous weekend’s murder of 18 civilians and injuries to 1,200. Among them were 11 women and 70 children, the Washington Post reports.

During that rally, the IDF killed Palestinian journalist Yasser Murtaja, 31, and wounded five other journalists from various domestic and international news agencies. Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights sent an urgent complaint to the United Nations, reporting that the Israeli army was deliberately targeting journalists in PRESS vests on the Gaza Strip border and criminally violating Palestinians’ rights to express themselves.

Doctors Without Borders on the ground in Gaza say the gunshot wounds they are treating are exceptionally severe:

MSF surgeons in Gaza report devastating gunshot wounds among hundreds of people injured during the protests over recent weeks. The huge majority of patients – mainly young men, but also some women and children – have unusually severe wounds to the lower extremities. MSF medical teams note the injuries include an extreme level of destruction to bones and soft tissue, and large exit wounds that can be the size of a fist.

As of this writing and since it began on March 15, the death toll of Palestinians in the March to Return protest is 40 souls. Hospitals in Gaza have declared a state of emergency due to a severe shortage of supplies. The six-week march is scheduled to end on May 15.

Israeli Agents Disguised as Palestinians Lure Protesters Toward Army

An even lesser-known but highly relevant story is that of the Musta’ribeen, an elite Israeli undercover unit that disguises themselves as Arabs or Palestinians. The secret Israeli security officers lure protesters into conflict and, ultimately, their own demise, Al Jazeera reported in December:

They are dressed like Palestinian protesters, speak with the same accents and expressions, and show the same mannerisms. Their faces covered with checkered keffiyehs or balaclavas, they chant against the Israeli army and sometimes throw stones in the direction of the soldiers, all while drawing in other protesters as they get closer and closer to the army.

Then, quick as a bang, the scene erupts, and this group suddenly turns on the rest of the Palestinian protesters, brandishing guns that were concealed under their shirts, firing in the air, grabbing those nearest to them and wrestling them to the ground.

The army advances and takes into custody the Palestinians that were caught, as the rest of the protesters disperse, screaming out one word as a warning to others: “Musta’ribeen!”

Disguised as Arabs

Musta’ribeen, or mista’arvim in Hebrew, is a word that is derived from the Arabic “musta’rib”, or one that is specialised in Arabic language and culture. In Israeli security terms, the word denotes security forces who disguise themselves as Arabs and carry out missions in the heart of Palestinian societies or other Arab countries. …

“The agents must speak Arabic as if it is their mother tongue,” Shalhat said. “They undergo courses to master Palestinian dialects and Arabic accents according to which Arab country they operate in, such as Yemen or Tunisia.” …

Presence in recent protests

Over the past two weeks, Palestinians have been protesting US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Hundreds have been arrested by Israeli forces, and 10 people have been killed so far in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Last week, during one of the protests at Ramallah’s northern entrance near the illegal Bet Il settlement, a group of musta’ribeen infiltrated the protest and arrested three young Palestinian men, according to journalist Rasha Harzallah.

“They were only there for 10 minutes,” said Harzallah, who was standing the closest to the first Palestinian protester arrested on Wednesday, December 13. “They were dressed exactly like the other Palestinian protesters, and threw a sound grenade at them.”

“They were about five in total, and pulled out their guns and began firing in the air,” she continued. “The army then suddenly advanced in huge numbers, and they began firing live bullets at people and in the air, even at the journalists.” …

‘How can they tell who they are?’

Harzallah explained that before the musta’ribeen made their presence known, the protesters were throwing stones at the Israeli army. But the soldiers did not respond, which immediately raised suspicions.

“They did not do anything,” she said. “From experience, the protesters know that when the Israeli army stops firing sound grenades, tear gas, rubber bullets … then there’s a big probability that the musta’ribeen are present among them. But how can they tell who they are?”

In the 2015 protests commonly referred to by Palestinians as the “Intifada of the knives”, Harzallah witnessed another raid by the musta’ribeen, which she described as much worse.

“They fired their weapons at two Palestinians, one in the head and the other in his leg from point-blank range,” she said. …

With the emergence of the musta’ribeen in protests, Palestinians have learned to become more vigilant.

One way of differentiating themselves from the undercover Israeli agents is tucking their shirts into their waistbands, where concealed weapons would be seen. …
